It’s been a pretty great month for old-school anglers.
The end of January saw Florida anglers Bobby Robinson and Randy Stormant win $10,000 at the Crappie Masters 2022 Kickoff event. It wasn’t the win itself that drew national attention, but rather the fact that the pair of veteran crappie anglers managed to win the event using cane poles and no electronics!
Several weeks later, a North Carolina angler managed to break a longstanding state trout record using his own homemade fishing rod!
On February 9, Neuse River Bait and Tackle in Grantsboro, North Carolina shared the news that Todd Spangler was the owner of a new speckled trout state record!
The massive fish weighed in at an impressive 12 pounds, 8 ounces. It measured 33 inches in length with an 18 inch girth!
Spangler’s trout, caught on the Neuse River, edged out the previously North Carolina speckled trout state record by several ounces. The previous record, which had held for an impressive 61 years, weighed 12 pounds, 8 ounces.
